COURTESY POST FOR GOLDEN BEGINNINGS RESCUE. Please make application at www.gbgrr.org or contact them at info@gbgrr.rog
Howdy folks! My name's Teddy. I'm a medium-sized retriever of some sort, but Golden Beginnings rescued me because of my golden heart! I'm one fine dog, even if I don't know much about where I came from. I likely got dragged by a car, because my back paws and a couple of spots on my hind legs had been badly injured. But I still had my good attitude and the animal control officer who picked me up could tell I was a sweetheart. When she sent out a plea for help, Golden Beginnings stepped in. I showed them my golden spirit right away, even though I was in pain. During wound treatments, I'd still wag my tail. Sometimes I'd even nuzzle whoever was holding me. I'm happy to say that I'm all well now. In fact, you'd never even know I'd been hurt unless you knew just where to look.
It's been a great few months! I've learned so many new things about living inside. I sleep in my crate, and I rest in there without complaining. I go potty outside. I leave the table and the counters alone. I wait for my food in a sit-stay. I don't jump up on people. I don't even jump on furniture, unless I'm invited, and even then, I'd rather lay on the dog bed. I didn't want to go near a car at first, but now I jump right in the minivan and ride along well. Sometimes I stick my nose where my mom doesn't want me to, but all she as to do is tell me no and I stop. The same with barking. I like to bark -- a big deep throated "woof" that makes me sound bigger than I am -- but I won't do it if mom shushes me. I just like humans so much that I'll do just about anything to please them! Mom's favorite trick is when she says "kiss kiss," and I stick my nose right up in her face without licking, so she can plant one on me.
I also really like to play. My human foster brothers are 6 and 9 yrs old and I let them boss me around. They're a lot of fun to play with, because they'll throw the ball for me. I love to fetch, but it's also fun to play keep away once I get tired of running back and forth. My 10 month old doggie foster sister is a real sucker for keep away. She can't stand it when I have the toy! I do like to "relocate" towels or small blankets, but I don't chew on them. I pretty much only chew on things mom gives me to chew on. I like to pull the stuffing out of cheap dog toys though, so mom had to quit buying those, but otherwise I'm happy with a rawhide or antler. I also walk well on a leash, unless there's another dog I see who I feel like I need to greet. But mom's working on that.
Mom says I'm a really smart dog and that's why I sometimes find mischief -- I'm a master escape artist. I can find my way through iron gates that it doesn't look like I can fit through. Mom thought she had this problem solved with chicken wire, but that was just a question of up and over! This doesn't happen when my humans are close. But if I get bored, I'm liable to go looking for someone to talk to. The last time I got out, I showed up where all the local dogs hang out, greeting everyone who came by for their morning walk!
I wish I could stay with my foster family forever, but mom says 3 dogs and 2 wild boys is too many at one time. She's probably right, but I just hope that whoever adopts me loves me as much as Mom does. I might act independent now that I'm well, but I still want to follow my human around and curl up by their feet in evenings. It's because I'm a "people-dog," just like all the other goldens on this website. I am currently 10 months old and weigh around 30-35lbs, so I basically full grown and the perfect size for any family!
