Meet Tabor (also known as "Hustle" or "Doug").

 

Poor Tabor's life has been rough for the few months that he has been around, but luckily it is all turning around. On New Year's Eve, one of our board members was driving down the feeder road of I -10 near the Heights and all of the sudden two small dogs darted in front of her headed for the entrance ramp onto I-10. She was able to coax them to the side street and that is where sweet little Tabor's life would change forever.  A guy that lived in a complex nearby witnessed her trying to get the dogs into her car and came over and told her of our baby boy's tough start...

Tabor's "family" brought two puppies home about 5 months ago and neglected them from the very start. Tabor and his sibling were left outside with no shelter all the time exposed to the elements as tiny puppies. They were not properly fed, as their owners would not feed them dog food but would just throw them scraps of human food, and for water they would have to scavenge from puddles. Well, the person who witnessed this went and spoke to them about proper pet care and tried to educate them. Unfortunately, they either didn't listen or didn't care because they continued to neglect them. Then one day the neighbor came home and saw Tabor's brother dead in the street after being hit by a car. He then waited for them to come home so he could confront them about their neglect and how it had cost the one puppy his life. They again just didn't care and continued to neglect this little guy. At this point the neighbor realized that he had to do something, so he would bring Tabor to his place periodically so he could feed him and pay attention to him. He also built a dog house for him so he would have some shelter from the elements since his owners provided nothing.  Then he noticed that they began to tie this little guy up with an extension cord. About two weeks ago the family apparently just up and left the little guy to fend for himself and he evidently got loose again and that's when he was spotted running down the feeder road.  The guy had tried his best to help this little boy, but he just couldn't take the Tabor since he was the neighbor and he wouldn't be able to hide his taking of the dog when the family finally returned home.  The other little dog that was running down the feeder was returned to his owners and we hope they will be more diligent in keeping him indoors and not running the streets.

 

Well, Tabor is a super sweet little guy despite his rough upbringing. He loves attention and will just sit and cuddle on you lap if you give him attention. He's just a precious little pup and will likely stay pretty small. He is a really cool boy who is only about 5 or 6 months old and weights only 15 pounds right now. Just look at his super cute face. You know you would just love to bring him home and cuddle with him!
