Meet Summer!

Summer has had a short but tough life. She's only 18 months old, already had  a litter of puppies, then dumped on the street to survive on her own. After  living in a storm drain for weeks, neighbors were able to coax her out and  take her to the vet. She had a screw stuck in her front paw and was bleeding  and terrified. Her paw has healed and no further medical attention will be  needed for that injury. At the vet, it was discovered she did have a chip  and an owner, who claimed they would pick her up. She waited in boarding for  two weeks, but her owners never arrived, instead sent an owner surrender  letter to the vet.

She is approximately 25 lbs. and will need to gain a few pounds. During the  first week in her foster home, she stayed in a crate or a corner with her  tail tucked and shook violently when anyone tried to approach her. But once  her foster mom sat with her, she only wanted snuggles and love. In a short  time, she was rolling over for belly rubs and giving kisses She currently  lives with two small children, who she adores, and two big dogs, who scare  her when they get too close. She shows no signs of food or resource  aggression. She has just learned to play with toys and smiles any time she  gets new ones.

Summer would do great in a home with children and smaller animals. She does  not appear to be interested in cats, but she has never lived with them (that  we know). She is desperate to be part of a loving family and simply would  love to have a couple of short trots around the block and lots of snuggle  time each day. She has moments of pure energy and happiness, then becomes  mellow and loves to chill. She is crate and house trained.
