Meet Spirit!  This sweet lady was sitting at the LaPorte pound for five long months!!   And now, she has been in boarding with us for another 4!   They did not have the heart to put her down, month after month. They kept trying to network her and find her a home.  When we were able to accept some new cuties to the program, Spirit was definitely on the list!
 
Spirit is a 4-5 year old Greyhound / Sharpei mix.  She has a ringer of a body for a Greyhound  -  even her head is shaped like one.  But she has the darling ears and coat of a Sharpei.  She is graceful in her movements and extremely gentle in demeanor.  My guess is she could run like the wind if she wanted too!  We have seen her speed already at day care!  Too boot, she is a strong girl and extremely intelligent. She dances too, right up on her hind legs and twirls like a ballerina, its so sweet!  Check out her newest trick "SHAKE"
 
She is unsure of car rides, but seems to enjoy them once we get going.  She does not appear to have any interest in cats at all and would likely do just fine in a home with cats.  Spirit was picked up as a stray in LaPorte, but was already spayed, so we know she had a home at one point. Spirit was named by the animal control officer that fought to save her for so long. He said her spirit was special and always stood out at the shelter.  She was fairly sad since she was there so long, and could sure use a pick-me-up like a foster home!  She has since moved to doing some day care and living with our trainer where she has lots of room to run and be the greyhound that she is! She is much happier, but still has been waiting SO LONG for a home again. A family of her VERY own.
 
Spirit continues to amaze us with her gentleness and grace. A true lady in every sense of the word.  Watching her transform from the scared and exhausted lady that she was at the shelter, into this active, peaceful and and content being has been something else. Those animal control officers knew how special she was when she was there and we are so happy to know her ourselves.
 
The only thing that could make Spirit even happier would be a foster or a forever home.  A family to call hers and hers only.  Don't miss out on another day of not knowing Spirit. Come and visit with her!!
