The animal shelter from which Silas was rescued from in 2009 offered the rare compassion of extending his adoption period, sparing him from euthanasia, due to his adorable and positive demeanor.  This Lab/Dane/Pit mix is lucky to be alive, and his family has been lucky to have him be an active part of their family for the past 4 years. He’s been a good playmate with their aging lab, a wonderful companion, and amazingly tolerant of their curious toddler. Their baby’s recent onset of allergies, however, are forcing them to find him a new home. He would make an excellent addition to another family – bringing them all the joy he’s brought his previous family.

 

Silas is a sweet, attentive, and loving dog - he will laze close by and allow you to pet him as long as you want, he will even crawl into your lap to act as an 80 pound blanket. He offers the perfect balance of home guardian and welcome committee, sounding scary barking at door knocks but then happily excited to meet visitors when let in. He is excellent with children, unbelievably patient and tolerant of curious toddlers and an infant. Their eldest played a game with him we called "treasure hunting," crawling on Silas to get to his clinking name tags, and Silas would calmly lick a cheek or a hand in passing.

 

He's great with other household animals, respecting boundaries once established. He plays with the family's alpha lab when she shows the energy and is indifferent to cats who have made it clear they wish to be left alone. On walks Silas can be excited to meet other dogs, only barking should another show aggression first, but otherwise easy to calm and disengage.  He is dependably obedient. He is house trained. He loves chasing squirrels, thrown balls, and you if you playfully run from him.

 

He's a big sweet lovable softy, and he deserves a forever family!  He's about 6 years old and really deserves to find his final forever home where he can rest assure that he will never be bounced around again.  Please help us find Silas that perfect home so he does not have to go to boarding after enjoying a family life for so long.

Silas is up to date on vaccinations, neutered and micro-chipped.
