Scarlett was found wandering a neighborhood in northwest Houston without a collar or tags, and of course no chip. Some friendly neighbors had been feeding her for a month or so, though she was skittish and didn't get too close to anyone. It took hot dogs, a slipknot, and some patience, but Scarlet came home with an SHR Volunteer and has been resting and getting better every day. She loves to cuddle for hours, but also lets you know when she needs her space. She is sleeping a lot right now because she's been working pretty hard to stay alive on the street. Every day she prances and plays just a little bit more!
She weighs about 31 lbs, and though she needs to put on a few pounds she probably won't be more than 40--tops. She's quiet, shy, and reserved, but coming out of her shell every day. She's doing very well with her foster brother and sister, setting boundaries for herself and for them, but very friendly and willing to share space. She's feeling at home, though it's hard to tell yet if she prefers quiet energy to loud, raucous environments. We think she is just getting use to the fact that she is SAFE!
Scarlett
is housebroken, and can sit on command! She is figuring out what treats are and how to get the good stuff by watching her foster siblings get stuff for being cute! She doesn't like peanut butter, so we can't be ENTIRELY sure she's really even a dog, but she's awfully cute!
She's listed as a retriever mix but sometimes she makes this face that looks like she's got some long hair dachshund in her. We think a calmer/older kid might be a better match, especially early in the game while she's trying to get her bearings.
