A few months ago while some volunteers were out looking for a lost injured dog in a rough part of town, they stumbled upon our sweet boy Ryker . Ryker was in really rough shape and had had a very hard life on the streets. His back leg was mangled beyond repair. The vet guessed that the damage to his leg was caused by being hit by a car or some other serious trauma. It was heartbreaking to see him drag his leg and he had sores all over the portion of his foot that drug on the ground. He also had a significant skin infection with sores all over his body. However, despite his horrible condition, he was as sweet as they come. For a few months he stayed at our vet where they treated his skin condition and got him to the point where he could have his surgery to amputate his leg. His surgery went very well and he has recovered fully and is doing great. He's never looked back and just enjoys his new life!
Ryker is very gentle and loving and was likely someone's pet at some point in his life. The vet guesses he's about 2 years old and looks to be an Australian Shepherd mix. He is a dashing young man! Ryker is one laid back little dude and has become quite comfortable! He has recovered quite well from surgery and getting around like a champ - running and romping around and even enjoying his outtings to the local dog park! He loves to sleep in and is definitely not a morning dog! He takes his time getting up in the morning and slowly stretches and rolls over before deciding to get up. It is not a rushed process. He likes to just hang out the rest of the time in whatever room you are in, just patiently waiting for some ear scratches.
He loves every person he meets and is happy to give kisses. He takes a little time warming up to certain other dogs (he just needs to figure out his hierarchy) but seems to do just fine and wants to play. But on an everyday basis he gets along fine with other dogs. He and Tucker, his canine foster brother, have successful games of tug-o-war. He plays perfectly well by himself as well, throwing toys around and pouncing on them and does well with humans tugging on the other end. He tends to want to play or be snuggled most in the evening and is fine with either!
He could care less about the cat in the house and co-exists with him just fine. Ryker rarely gives him a second look.
He's not had to be crated, but he does stay baby gated in a room during the day and does great. At night, he has full run of the house and has done well. He seems perfectly house trained and minds very well. He's just a happy-go-lucky kind of guy who would make a wonderful addition to a low to medium activity household. He's got a lot of love to give and boy is he handsome!!
Ryker is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped.
