Meet Rufus! This beautiful boy is in need of a loving home!

Rufus appears to be a Great Dane mixed with some sort of bird dog. He loves being around people, and he is good with both other dogs and children. His temp foster family also had a cat – they say he is intrigued by him, but he did not cause any problems.

He loves, loves, loves to cuddle! Rufus is housebroken and he will let them know when he needs out. He doesn't bark much, but when he does, you will definitely be aware of it! Rufus is a gentle giant. He is 90 pounds of love and tenderness. He has spent the last 8 months with a family with two very young children (2yrs & 4yrs old) who adore him and love to hug on him.  He will sit and lie down on command and loves to give hand shakes. He's got a face of kindness and a heart of gold.

Rufus is wonderful with other animals. Although he has shown "protective instincts" when other animals approach his family, he has never displayed aggression. He loves to run. He will chase and return a ball until you stop throwing it. You wouldn't believe this, because when he is indoors, he is curled up in a corner, sleeping....or under the table with his head rested atop your foot. He's a big dog that thinks he's a cat. He loves to try and fit in a chair that does not support his size, or squeeze on top of a pillow like a cat. Rufus is 100% potty-trained. He loves the outdoors and he is wonderful with small children. Rufus rarely barks and has never growled, at anyone. He loves car rides and thoroughly enjoys going on walks outdoors.

Rufus needs a home where he can continue to show his love, and continue to be loved in return. Because of Rufus' tremendous love for humans, Rufus doesn't like to be left alone. He needs a family that can be devoted to working with his separation anxiety, and that doesn't have a schedule preventing them from being home regularly. Rufus would do well in any environment, especially one where he is able to run and play. When outdoors, he is full of energy. Inside, he pretends he's a rug.
