Poor Ruben's heart was broken when he and his friend were hit by a car February 13th. Sadly, his friend was killed and he was left in the road for hours, in pain and crying over her body. Ruben was kept company by his namesake, a man who waited by his side while the authorities were called but never appeared. Fortunately, a Scout's Honor volunteer scooped them up and rushed Ruben to the ER, where everyone was relieved to hear his injuries were minor (torn ACL). Ruben moved in with his foster family and has been having a wonderful time ever since!! He loves and shows great concern for his canine foster siblings, canine and feline alike, and wants nothing more in life than a soft bed, head scratches, and a bone to chew on. He is a great mixture of calm observer and happy lab personality! A total joy to have around, his fosters are very much in love with him. Ruben is still learning about new aspects of life with humans (shiny elevators are scary!) but is oh-so-willing to please that we are confident he can adapt to anything. He has taken to the good life extremely well!  He is walking perfectly on leash, riding happily and quietly in the car, fetching/sitting/staying on command, and staying quietly in his crate whenever left alone. He prefers freedom of course and has done extremely well with house training, though he does love toys and needs one or two available for entertainment to keep him from searching for a remote or shoe to carry around instead.  His Kong toy has been deemed the very best toy in the entire universe. Ruben is a joy and an incredible dog. He is not the most athletic lab around, but would make an excellent companion for a family seeking a loving pet who will be by their sides or at their feet with utter dedication. Great with dogs, cats, and kids.  He is ready to give his whole heart to a forever family - will it be yours??  Ruben is approximately 2 years old and full grown at 75 goofy pounds.  =)
