Please meet our wonderful Rivka (her name means she's a bold, dark-haired beauty!) Rivka wandered into a residential back yard and said "this is nice, I think I will make it my home!" The kind lady that lived there gave her food, shelter, bedding and water for a few weeks but then called Scouts Honor Rescue because Rivka was too scared to get close and be petted/loved on. Maybe her previous owners weren't very nice to her! We had to "trap" her because she wouldn't get near us. It turns out that Rivka really loves people, it just takes her a little while to relax and trust them. She is a mini-shepherd of sorts with a gorgeous black coat, she is about a year old and is fully vetted and spayed. She weighs about 35 lbs and eats every meal like it could be her last!!! She is a hungry girl, but has no food aggression- her foster mom can reach her hand in and take the bowl away mid-meal and Rivka just sits and looks at her like "why did you do that, I wasn't done!" She also knows to "sit" nicely before she gets her food... such good manners!
Rivka is thriving in her foster home and is a wonderful dog. She is totally potty-trained, very smart, and gives great kisses. She is a bit shy around new people but she warms up quickly. After just one day she was following her foster mom everywhere and was very happy and loving. She must have some Border Collie in her because she went to a ranch one weekend and went crazy over the cows. She ran and barked and tried to "round them up" and had the time of her life. She LOVES playing with other dogs of all sizes. She is scared of new things at first (like going up stairs and getting into a car) but with a little help, she catches on quickly and acts like a pro. Rivka enjoys the simple things in life, like tossing around a toy in the backyard, or eating ice cubes off the floor (who needs doggie treats when ice cubes are her favorite!) She is still active like a puppy and would like a nice walk every day if there isn't another doggy at the house for her to play with and get some of the energy out. Rivka doesn't have a mean bone in her little body and would make an amazing family pet. Spending a little time teaching and helping her get comfortable with her new surroundings (some extra TLC and saying plenty of "good girl!") is well worth it for the love, loyalty, and companionship of this sweet dog.
