Adopt & Foster
Hi, hi! My name is Remi, and boy do I have a story to tell you! I was left to die at BARC, when some wonderful Scout’s Honor Rescue volunteers saved me. I then went and sat in a kennel until a foster could be found for me. Boy was I glad to be alive, but I was also really lonely. Luckily, my wonderful foster parents looked at my beautiful red, shiny coat and my sweet, soulful eyes (if I do say so myself!) and decided to give me a shot.
When my foster mom and dad first took me in, they noticed that I walked a little funny. After a few x-rays, they learned that both of my femurs had been broken earlier in my life—one was broken right at the hip joint—ouch!! The vet's best guess was that whatever happened to me likely happened when I was a puppy. And get this (!): based on the way my bones healed, the vet said that most likely I NEVER received medical treatment for these breaks, so they healed on their own. They healed a little bit funny though. After seeing the x-rays, Dr. Liska from Gulf Coast was amazed that I was walking at all. But I am unstoppable (!!!) and figured out a way to walk, and even run, despite it all. However, I was developing arthritis in one of my legs that Dr. Liska said was probably only going to progress, so last December I had FHO surgery on both hips to try to help me walk and run even better and to hopefully alleviate some of the pain and arthritis. I also went through an entire rehabilitation program. And it worked! My gait is pretty much completely normal, and I feel so much better. My foster parents say I can finally be the puppy I never got to be!
So now, thanks to the fabulous and generous people at Scout's Honor and GCVS (Dr. Liska, Nancy, and their teams), I have a new lease on puppyhood! Watch out world—HERE I COME!
The vets and SHR folks think I am a Rhodesian Ridgeback/hound mix and am approximately 3-4 years old. I'm fully house trained and get along great with my foster brother (a chocolate lab) and foster sister (a DSH cat—I let her think she is in charge, shhhh!). I go for long walks everyday (about a mile or so) to keep my hips healthy and to make sure I stay in tip-top shape. After all, it takes work to look this good (again, even if I do say so myself)! My foster parents think I would be great for an active family with kids.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE life! You can tell by how emphatically I wag my tail and the perennial smile on my face! So, do you want to join me on my next big life adventure?
