Hi, my name is Reba. I am an about 1.5 year old Boxer/Staffordshire Mix. Here is my sad story: I dont really know how I ended up in this situation, but when a nice lady found me at a gas station in February, I was in horrible shape, not to say nearly dead. I had no meat on my bones, no hair on my skin, scabs all over my body, I smelled really bad and I was sooo hungry. I must have had a feeling that this lady is someone who might help me, so I decided to sneak up on her while she was filling up her car. Later, she told me, that she had put it in the hands of destiny to take me with her or not. She thought to herself, if she is still sitting there after the gas tank is completely filled up, then I will take her home with me. So, believe me, people: I was still sitting there because I was too exhausted to move anyway! The next day, I had a vet visit with my parents. It turns out that I had generalized demodex mange (which is not contagious, but takes a longer time to cure); I was heartworm positive (which takes a lot of money to cure), had a bad ear infection and was terribly malnourished. Now, guess what? These lovely people that found me have put me through all this treatment, even though they knew they couldn't keep me forever! Imagine, just the heartworm treatment alone was worth $ 500! They nourished me back to health and finally even got me spayed. I now have my right weight, I am heartworm negative and the mange is gone. The only way you can tell what I have been through is some scars on my face (I had a rough time on the streets) and some missing fur spots on my body where my coat still has some catching up to do. Now, here's some news about my personality: I am a very snuggly dog, who loves to hang out with her people on the sofa. I love people and dogs in general, but when it comes to dogs then I prefer the younger, more energetic players that can keep up with me, now that I have my strength back :-) For my foster parents two 10-year-old dogs I simply play too rough. My best friend in this household is the 4-year-old Cocker Spaniel Sunny, who I really love to play with. I totally love to be outside, so if you have a backyard, lots of fresh water and a shady place for me, then you will make my day. I will also protect your house, alerting you for strangers at the door and if something's going on outside. I like everyone you'll introduce me to, and just love to be petted and give lots of kisses. Maybe sometimes, for certain people, I will be a little shy at first, but I warm up quickly. I am also highly trainable. In a short period of time my mom taught me sit, down and give paw (shake). I am also housetrained but you need to be aware of my restroom needs because if I have an accident once I tend to try it there again until you show me the right thing to do one more time. Okay, now that you know so much about me, I have a question for you: Do you think that you are ready to offer me a new loving home?
