Raleigh is fun loving and playful--she likes fetching a tennis ball and playing with her big lab mix foster brother. She does not need loads of activity to keep her happy. Spend a few minutes with her playing fetch in the back yard and she’ll happily come in the house and chew on her Nylabone or a stuffed toy. In the house, she’ll sometimes entertain herself by flipping a toy or tennis ball then chasing it. One of her favorite games is placing a tennis ball on the bottom shelf of the bookcase. When it rolls off, she grabs it. She’ll also happily curl up on her donut bed or at your feet and watch TV with you.  Raleigh is a very good house dog.

Unfortunately, Raleigh was not very well socialized when she was a puppy. This has made her reactive around new people and new dogs, particularly when she is on leash. With the help of a professional trainer and continued clicker/treat training, Raleigh is learning that “new” doesn’t necessarily mean bad or scary. She’s very treat motivated which makes her a quick study. Raleigh is crate trained and house trained and has been quick to learn many valuable obedience commands like sit, down and stay. Raleigh’s optimal situation would be one where daily walks were NOT required—so someone with a yard where Raleigh could take care of business and play ball with you would be ideal. Raleigh’s adopter should also be a dog savvy owner committed to continuing her training and growth. Raleigh would be great as an only dog or as a buddy for your dog that is her size or larger. No cats or young children for Raleigh but she does well with older kids.

She has come a long way since being picked up from the streets by Houston Animal Control (BARC). While at the shelter, she contracted a couple of nasty illnesses, and if not for rescuers stepping in to save her, she would have likely died. Though she had a collar, her owner never came to claim her. Their loss is your gain because this nice, pleasant, completely healthy dog is ready to go home with you! Raleigh is heartworm negative and currently on preventative.

She's spayed and up to date on vaccinations and has a microchip so she'll never go homeless again.
