Meet our PRECIOUS Pookie Pie. I know that does not sound like one of our usual names, but read on and you will understand.

 

Pookie Pie is an adorable, incredibly loving lab/pointer mix. This little lady had been living on Main Street for a few months before she took up with some guys who were living in a tent on one of the vacant properties. Well, if you ever go down Main, you know lots are being eaten up by development. This little make-shift family was in trouble.

 

Her caretakers, who had taken Pookie in after she was dumped on Main, were having to move around more, which was not safe for Pookie. The guys did their best and taught her not to get in the street so that she could not follow them. But the hunt for work was keeping them out longer and longer, leaving Pookie alone and vunerable.

 

One of our volunteers spotted Pookie one day and tried to get her, but Pookie Pie just took off for the woods. Over the next few weeks she kept looking and trying to get Pookie with no luck. Then she met others who had been trying to get this little girl safe. Days and nights turned to weeks. Pookie had started eating out of her new friends' hands but leashing was another matter.

 

One day Pookie's family was there when somebody was out looking for her. They asked what she was going to do with the dog if she caught her. When it was explained that Pookie would be safe and would get the very best care and find a forever home, they asked for the leash.  They went back into the woods and brought her to the car. Pookie did not want to leave her family, and seeing grown men, who have known hard times, cry breaks your heart. But the love they had for her to let her go so that she was FOREVER safe was amazing!!!!

 

Pookie is currently in boarding and would love to find a foster or forever home. Her family receives updates as often as they can be found and have a picture of a happy, healthy Pookie to keep close to their hearts.  Pookie has learned that she is safe and absolutely loves attention. When you sit down with her she will sit as close as possible and even drape her leg across yours so that you cannot possibly get away. This little one wants to be close and loves people, now that she does not have to worry about the ones who threw rocks and sticks or yelled for her to get away.

 

Pookie is about 2 years old and is still needing to put on some weight, but should be around 55-60 pounds. Did you notice her crystal blue eye...STUNNING!!!!
