Hello, my name is Maverick. I'm a Lab mix (some say I'm mixed with Shar Pei). I was rescued from the LaPorte Pound, where I had been for 17 days. I am about one year old and weigh almost 50 lbs. I'm already neutered. Other than a few minor problems, my vet says I'm in good shape. Good skin, good teeth, good coat. Very handsome... I am VERY good on a leash and very well behaved, although I haven't learned any basic commands yet (like "sit" and "stay"). My foster parents say I'm smart, so it shouldn't take much work. I love to go outside in the yard (I was obviously a backyard dog once upon a time), and I LOVE to fetch. I'm house and crate trained. I LOVE other dogs. I love to go to the dog park. I found out during my check up that I am heartworm positive. The vet tells us that, since I'm young, and I don't have any symptoms, I probably haven't had the infection long. My foster parents decided to try the "soft" treatment on me. Basically, I take a Heartguard every month (which I should get anyway). The hope is that we will keep the baby heartworms under control, and the adults will die off on their own over time. My foster parents have already bought me 6 months of Heartguard, so all you would have to do is remember to give it to me. I get very excited around cats, so my foster parents decided not to test me any further because their cats have never seen a dog as big as I am, and they're very upset. Well, that's me!
