Meet Maggie! Maggie was rescued by a Scout’s Honor Rescue sometime back. When we rescued her, she was super skinny and needed to eat some good grub to put some weight on this super sweet, kind, and gentle loving soul.
Maggie is quiet, gentle & submissive, low-medium energy level. Maggie is super well-behaved and well-trained. She heels and sits on command. She is house-trained. Maggie prefers quiet, rather than in the center of a dog-wrestling match. This sweet girl was living on the streets with another dog for months, and so she surely misses her buddy. She has done well with the certain other dogs that are low-key like her and would also do fine in a home as an only dog. She slowly came out of her shell and occasionally plays with other dogs, swatting playfully at them and hoping they'll swat back:) It is unknown if Maggie ever lived with cats previously, but she doesn't show much concern for them when exposed to them at the vet's office. She could probably go to a home with cats, it would just be case by case.
Maggie adores being around people of course and loves to snuggle. She will sit quietly by your side just to be near you where she knows she is finally safe. It is unknown if she was raised with children, but her sweet and calm nature would likely do wonderfully in a home with children!
Maggie walks at a perfect pace heeling alongside you, always staying on the same side. She likely belonged to a family at one point that did teach her good leash manners. Maggie is perfectly house-broken and only goes potty outside. She does not climb on the sitting furniture unless invited to come up. She does love to sleep on her a bed at night, but again, waits to be invited. Maggie is usually curled up sleeping on her dog bed, enjoying her new environment of comfort instead of the mean streets. She is crated during the day, but she doesn't need to be. She does just fine with the door of the crate left open so she can come and go as she pleases. She sleeps soundly at night on a dog bed. Maggie also enjoys going for a ride in the car. She needs a little boost to get in the car, and after that, it's gravy! She rides well and stays put in the back looking out the window.
Her adoptive family just needs to understand that she can live very harmoniously with other dogs as long as they are low-key and separated at feeding time. After having been starved while living life on the streets, this is understandable that she likes to eat by herself. She is sweet as can be when being fed by her humans, and will gently take food from your hand.
While much of Maggie's history is unknown, we truly believe that at one point Maggie had a caring family that loved her and trained her, based on her demeanor/behavior. Someone took the time to train her to heel alongside while walking on a leash, potty train her, teach her to sit, and to take food gently from someone's hand. She had been living on the side of Highway 610 near the Port of Houston with another dog for a few months when she was finally captured and taken into rescue. She was not micro chipped when she was found, nor did she have a collar or tags. At the time of rescue, poor Maggie was scared of people and cars, dodging huge trucks, and starving to the point that her bones were sticking out all over her body. She had been living off the streets and no one in the nearby neighborhood seemed to care enough to take her in or feed her. She is a kind soul that deserves a pampered life from here on out.
