Luke 6

Meet Luke!  Luke is safe and off the mean streets of Houston thanks to friends of Corridor Rescue and Scout's Honor Rescue.  He was taken in by Scout's Honor after living in squalor on the streets of Northeast Houston, and is in need of a forever home.  Poor Luke was apparently tied up and dumped by some horrible person and when we found him he was just sitting there as if to say "why on earth would someone just leave me here to fend for myself". Poor boy was actually beat up on by some other stray dogs in the area and not being a "street-wise" boy, he was totally unable to fend for himself. 

Luke is a golden/yellow lab mix who is about 2-3 years old. He does great with other dogs and loves to play with them. He loves doggie daycare where he gets to play with the "big dogs." He would be an awesome running partner as he loves to run. We even think he would be a perfect dog fro someone who lives in an apartment or condo as he’s perfectly content lounging around as long as he gets his daily exercise. Luke is such a good dog who is just waiting for that special person to come along and give him a loving home and tell him that he will be safe and sound forever. Please consider opening your home and heart to Luke.

Luke is neutered, up to date on vaccinations and micro-chipped. He's a healthy young man who deserves to be in a home !


Here's what our sweet boy's foster mom has to say about him!!

General personality: Playfully submissive, medium energy level and always smiling.

Manners: Luke is well-behaved and well-trained. He heels, sits and lays down on command. He will sit and wait for his food and is house-trained. He understands the commands "sit," "lay down," "heel," "off," "inside," "outside," and "OK, eat your food."

Other dogs: Luke abso-freaking-LUKEly loves other dogs! He will make a wonderful playmate if you already have a dog in your home. He loves to play inside and outside the house with the foster mom's other dog. He likes to wrestle and play tug-of-war with toys. He can handle rough play just fine, so if you have a big dog, have no fear....he likes to be body-slammed! Luke has never shown aggression towards the other dog in the house, even while the other dog playfully chews on his ears, legs, and tries to take the toy out of his mouth. He prefers hard chew toys and rope toys instead of stuffed animals that can be shredded:)

Dog park: One of Luke's favorite places to be is the dog park where he can stretch his legs and run with other mutts. Below are some links to videos of him playing at the dog park...check them out!

People: Luke loves being around people of course and likes to snuggle. He greets people with a friendly sniff and waggles of his tail. Luke has been great with kids ages 4, 6, and 8 and would likely do wonderfully in a home with children!

Walks: When on a leash, Luke walks well at a good, brisk pace. He tends to pull a bit in the beginning of the walk, but eventually settles into a rhythm and can be reined back in with the "heel" command. He is walked 3-4 times a day with the other dog in his foster home. He reliably goes potty on every walk. He also loves to run, so if you are a runner/jogger, he would be delighted to join you on your next outing! He's the most enthusiastic running partner you'll ever have at 6 am!

Cats: Luke should go to a home without cats, as he has a high prey drive.

Other animals: This high prey drive keeps Luke entertained with his favorite pastime, chasing squirrels in the backyard. He used to jump the fence to catch them, but he has since broken that bad habit through consistent training and the "off" command. Be aware that you should have at least a 6 foot tall fence to deter any potential chases.

House manners: Luke does not climb on the sitting furniture unless invited to come up. He is currently not allowed on the furniture in his foster home, but will occasionally jump up on the couch for a moment when in the middle of playing with the other dog in the home. When he's not playing with the other dog, Luke is usually curled up sleeping on his dog bed. He is crated during the day. He sleeps soundly at night in his foster mom's bedroom on a dog bed on the floor.

Car rides: Luke really enjoys going for a ride in the car. He will jump right in and wait anxiously for you to take him to his next adventure destination! He rides well and for the most part will stay put on the back seat looking out the window.

Health: Luke is in great health and actually enjoys going to the veterinarian's office! At just over 2 years old, Luke is at his full height and weight. He tolerates changes in food very well. He does not exhibit food aggression at all.
