Sugar nka Jester

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 8 a.m., a volunteer and her husband took their Scout’s Honor rescue pups to the park at TC Jester. They were in a hurry—the day was already hot and humid, and it only took a few minutes for Cady and Milo to get tired. They were walking by the dog park, and noticed a dog, but no owners. As we got closer, we counted one … two … three … FOUR … FIVE. Five puppies, jumping around inside an open plastic storage container—dumped at the dog park. They scooped them up and brought these five babies home, but since one of their SHR rescues, Cady, is recovering from mange, we had to hustle their pups to doggy day care while we pursued rescue/foster/boarding options for the five puppies. EVERY NO-KILL RESCUE AND SHELTER IN/AROUND HOUSTON WAS FULL. They called, texted, emailed, Facebooked, and Tweeted for HOURS.
They puppies were scared and confused. They slept in a big pile, loving one another, and cleaning each other’s wounds; four of the five have scabs/scarring along their spine, where hair is missing. The fifth is showing signs of hair loss along the spine. We can’t/don’t want to speculate about the cause, but our vet said a chemical or thermal burn.
Sugar Ray:
Sugar is in a foster home and goes walking with his 3 older dogs every night, and he keeps up with all the dogs. He thinks he is one of the "big dogs" He has taken to the oldest dog Wrigley, a Scout's Honor Alumni. He thinks he is his daddy. He loves chasing Wrigley in the backyard.
Sug is responding very well to crate training. When the crate opens, he knows to go straight to the back door so he can go outside and do his business.
He loves all his toys. He seems to be a very smart, alert puppy who is always wagging his tail and happy, even when he is eating.
He is a great cuddlier. He will sneak onto a lap real quick and just settle in. He seems to be a calm puppy. He has his puppy moments, but is a great dog and is learning quickly!
