Kane

Meet Kane!  He is a gorgeous dog! He was recently surrendered to a local shelter by his owner because he was "too much for them to handle". The owners said they didn't realize how big he would be.  Hmmm-  you bought a Great Dane - do they ever stay small?  Then, almost immediately, he was adopted out at the local shelter he was surrendered too and again returned 2 days later!  The adopters said they didn’t realize how much space he needed, they didn’t have a big enough back yard and they were scared he would knock over their 1–2 year old child.  How or why they didn’t think of these things before adopting him we don’t know!  The shelter was frustrated with this and wanted him to go to Scout's Honor  where he could have people better screening for a great match for him, rather than everyone wanting to take him home just as a novelty.  

Kane is a 10 month old Harlequin Great Dane.   He is white with merle patches and crystal blue eyes.  He is shy of 100 lbs now (underweight as you can see) and has lots of filling out to do, as well as quite a bit of growing in general to do.  Great Danes continue to grow longer than most dogs and aren't considered full grown until 16 r even 18 months.  As far as the handsome factor goes, he clearly has that market cornered & turns heads everywhere he goes.  He has been nick-named "Legs" by our vet.  Kane is a very happy and sweet boy!  He rides great in the car – make sure you have one big enough for him- and can basically sit in the back seat and the front seat all at the same time.  He likes to put his face right in your face and just sit there like "hey, what's up" and just hang out….hasn't quite figured out what personal space is, but it is so endearing & sweet, you can only give him a big smooch and pat on the head for it.  Kane has a bark that definitely fits his size.  Its loud, deep and gets your attention in a hurry.  It is, of course, followed by a wiggling butt & wagging tail and a kiss you don't even have to bend down to receive.

Its easy to forget that, while he is already so big, he is still very much a puppy!  Kane needs a home where his family will realize this and commit to positive training and give him lots of daily love, routine and exercise.  Since Kane has been bounced so much already in his short life, we are here to make sure the next home he goes to is 100% his home for life!!  Previous Dane owners would be a plus!

Meanwhile, Kane is stuck at the vet and could really use a foster home to stretch those long legs out!  Who has room for this handsome guy??
