Meet Heaven!

This easy going sweetheart has a sad backstory. We were contacted recently by BARC about a dog that had been turned in by her family. Heaven had been the family pet since she was young and had been a loyal family dog for 3 years. Poor Heaven was afflicted by a rare condition called Progressive Retinal Atrophy, where the rods and cones in her eye rapidly die for no reason. Her owners realized she was going blind so they took her to the vet to be checked out. The vet told them she was going blind and that they wanted to run some tests. Well, instead of helping her, her family just gave up on her and turned her into BARC where they were told she would be put to sleep. At BARC she was absolutely terrified. She had gone blind and the world that she did know and was comfortable in was ripped away from her. Due to her blindness, she was not a candidate for adoptions at BARC and so we decided to step in and help this poor girl.

We had her checked out and the vets said that her blindness likely came on quickly, which had to be so scary for her.  While her loss of sight is permanent, she is not in any pain and will just take some time to get adjusted to her new life. Despite all that has happened to her she is a sweet girl. She is very easy going and does everything a little slow because she just is unsure of everything yet. Heaven responds well to your voice and will come right up to you and lean in and nuzzle with you. She wants nothing more than to be close to you and be petted. She loves people, but can get a little freaked out by other dogs that are too energetic or that want to get in her face. She would be best as an only dog or with another dog that is very calm as well. We were lucky enough to find her a great foster home quickly, so she did not have to stay in boarding, but she still needs that loving forever home where she can relax forever.

Heaven is about 3 years old and a Rottweiler/Lab mix.  She is very healthy, up to date on vaccination, spayed and micro-chipped.
