Meet Dash.
Dash had been spotted many times by one of our volunteers over the last few weeks. We were told by neighbors that his owners moved away and just left him behind. Well, poor Dash had an injured leg that he did not use much, had been hit by cars, and was having to suffer outside in all of the recent cold weather. We had several people tried to get him. They could get close to him and even feed him, but he got very scared at the sight of a leash or when you tried to grab him, that he eluded capture for quite a while. He even had to sleep outside during the night it iced up because he was so wily. Luckily we were finally able to catch him and get him off the streets to safety.
He is now safe and in a foster home where he sleeps in his bed or next to his foster mom's bed. He's very well-behaved in the house and is enjoying his new life. Although he's timid with people, he has been through a lot and will warm up with time as he sees that people are nice to him.
We had his injured leg examined, and the vets think that it is likely an old injury. To our surprise, when he was x-rayed, we learned that our poor sweet boy had been shot muiltiple times with a pellet gun. These don't bother him now as they have healed, and will not have any lingering effects on him. We are monitoring his leg and have started him on some pain meds. It is likely something that can be fixed with a simple surgery, but we will know for sure once we do his follow up exam in a few weeks and his body condition is better. He is a sweet boy that really deserves a loving family to take him in and show him what a real family is. Please let sweet Dash into your home where he can relax and be loved like he deserves.
He's a small guy, only about 35lbs and looks to be maybe a mix between a Cattle Dog and a Spitz.
