Crockett is a Treeing Walker Coonhound, a Kentucky breed famed for its speed and determination in treeing raccoons. But Crockett does not hunt, which may help explain how this regal animal ended up in a pound before ScoutsHonor rescued him. Crockett is a loving, sweet and gentle dog who wants to be with you. He lives for morning, afternoon or evening walks and needs to find a family with a big yard and a big heart who will give him the love and attention that have been missing in his life. He will amply repay your love by being a devoted family dog. Consistent training are the keys to this dog being a great addition to your family. He would not do well in a small house and would love a home with older children to throw the ball for him. He’ll great you at the door when you come home with a welcoming bay, then run to get his leash. He sleeps indoors but is happy to spend his days in a fenced yard. He recently spent the weekend at a home with two cats and did splendidly. He gets along great with other large and medium-sized dogs, but can be overbearing with small breeds.
Crockett appears to be 2+ years old and is fully vetted. He has basic housebreaking and crate training and is responds to basic “come” and “sit” commands. He is highly, highly intelligent and inquisitive. He quickly learned how to open doors in our house and even figured out how to open the cabinet drawer where we keep the dog food. He responds well to verbal commands and quickly learns what is expected of him. He is a very good boy eager to please!
