Bray

On Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 8 a.m., a volunteer  and her husband took their Scout’s Honor rescue pups to the park at TC Jester. They were in a hurry—the day was already hot and humid, and it only took a few minutes for Cady and Milo to get tired. They were walking by the dog park, and noticed a dog, but no owners. As we got closer, we counted one … two … three … FOUR … FIVE. Five puppies, jumping around inside an open plastic storage container—dumped at the dog park.

They scooped them up and brought these five babies home, but since one of their SHR rescues, Cady, is recovering from mange, we had to hustle their pups to doggy day care while we pursued rescue/foster/boarding options for the five puppies. EVERY NO-KILL RESCUE AND SHELTER IN/AROUND HOUSTON WAS FULL. They called, texted, emailed, Facebooked, and Tweeted for HOURS.

They puppies were scared and confused. They slept in a big pile, loving one another, and cleaning each other’s wounds; four of the five have scabs/scarring along their spine, where hair is missing. The fifth is showing signs of hair loss along the spine. We can’t/don’t want to speculate about the cause, but our vet said a chemical or thermal burn.

Our little brindle, Bray=brown + gray! A lover, and playful, though timid compared to his sibs. Bray has one of the worst cases of scabbing along his spine. His brothers and sisters take time to clean his wounds before they all lay down to go to sleep.   He's just a sweet sensitive little guy.

Bray scored a foster with Silver and they're both finding their voices - nice, deep barks and growls!  Silver is a little more chill.  She likes to hang out in the crate and tries to sleep more than Bray (if only he would let her!).   Bray likes to change is mind at the last minute - as in, running to head inside/outside then making a u-turn at the last second - usually before I even know what's happening!  Silver has learned how to climb up onto our low guess bed and she already knows that's where she should be sleeping (like I said, she likes her sleep!).  She's also very adventurous, but quick to get startled.   Bray is more even-keeled, to the point of paying no attention to anything around him.
