Harold

German Shepherd Dog / Hound / Mixed (short coat) • Male • Adult • Medium

Handsome Harold! This great boy was on his way to be euthanized the afternoon we did our Operation BARC Pull in February, but we snatched him up! He's only 45lbs, about 5-7 yrs old and such a calm love. Great with every dog he meets!

Sweet boy was covered in wounds and no one would even give him a chance. Well, he's with SHR now and on his way to happiness!
From Harold’s Fabulous Foster Mom:  I cannot express what a naturally wonderful dog Harold is!  When he came to me, he was very sweet and calm and very respectful of the house and my two dogs, but it was obvious he had no clue how to be a dog.  He didn’t know what treats were.  He didn’t know what toys were.  He had no idea how to play at all.  Over a very short time, he has grown to love his treats, belly rubs, playing like a puppy with his foster siblings and proudly parading around with his legless alligator toy and tennis balls.  He wakes up every morning absolutely jubilant to be alive!  Harold’s tail never stops wagging (unless he is asleep—which he also does like a champ) and he never stops smiling—he is happy about everything!!
Harold has all of the good German Shepherd and hound qualities rolled into one- he rarely leaves my side unless it’s to go sniff something out.  He patrols the perimeter of the backyard but with the gait of a Beagle or a Basset Hound.   He isn’t much of a barker unless it’s absolutely necessary or he’s greeting me when I come home from the office.   Most importantly, he is very patient and loving with his very active, younger foster siblings.
This funny fella’s wounds have healed, he has been neutered and microchipped and is up-to-date on vaccinations.  He is house-trained and crate-trained and rides well in the car.  When working on basic obedience at home, he couldn’t even conceptualize what “sit” meant.  So off to obedience training we went!  He has completed Level I basic obedience and passed with flying colors!  Harold knows sit, down, stay, leave it, let’s go, and is excellent on-leash. His trainer thinks he is a spectacular boy and was so impressed by how easy it was to teach an older boy new tricks! I am considering taking him to Level II obedience to round out his knowledge.
Harold adjusts so easily to new situations and I firmly believe he would instantly do well in his adoptive home. I can’t speak highly enough of him.  If you are looking for a chill, happy guy, then he is the one for you!!
